A man driving a pickup truck was injured following an accident involving an 18-wheeler on the north freeway on Christmas Day. The accident occurred early Sunday morning, at about 12:30 a.m. on the southbound lanes of the north freeway.

Houston police and firefighters responded to a call about an accident and resulting fire near West Gulf Bank Road early that morning. When they arrived at the scene of the accident on the north freeway, they found the pickup truck and its driver pinned beneath the 18-wheeler.

The Houston Fire Department worked to extract the driver, and he was then Life Flighted to a nearby hospital. He remains in serious condition but is expected to recover. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured in the crash, and no other injuries were reported.

Officials are still working to investigate the cause of the collision.
