Deadly Crash on 290 East at Mason Road

Several of the eastbound lanes of U.S. 290 near Mason Road were shut down following a deadly crash. The accident occurred early this morning, at about 5 a.m.

Police state that the crash occurred in the inside lane after a passenger in a vehicle started assaulting the driver. The driver stopped the car, and the driver and two passengers exited the vehicle.

A truck, also driving in the inside lane, struck the rear of the parked car. The two passengers of the first vehicle, a man and a woman, were hit in the collision, and were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the stopped vehicle and the driver of the truck were both injured, but are in stable condition.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office reported that all of the inbound lanes of 290 at Mason Road would be shut down for several hours as a result of the deadly crash.
