A pedestrian was struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash in the southeast side of Houston. The accident occurred early this morning, at 1:20 a.m. at the 9500 block of Clearwood Drive, near the Gulf Freeway.

Witnesses state that the accident occurred when a Dodge Charger lost control while speeding down the road. The driver of the vehicle lost control of the car, and it struck a utility pole, flipped, and hit a woman walking down the street. The woman died before first responders were able to make it onto the scene.

The Houston Police Department reported that the at-fault driver, a woman, fled the scene on foot. Her passengers reported that they had been at a nightclub. Officers are working to find the suspect and determine if alcohol or drugs were involved.

None of the three passengers in her vehicle were injured in the collision. Police are still working to identify the pedestrian that was killed in the hit-and-run. After speaking with the passengers of the vehicle, police report that the woman did not own the car and had met the passengers, including the owner of the car, at a club earlier that evening. The driver is being sought out for felony charges of failing to stop and render aid.
