Nissan North America recently announced a large recall of more than 1.2 million new-models vehicles due to backup camera concerns. Affected vehicles may be equipped with a backup camera that does not display an image when the vehicle is placed in reverse, increasing the risk of a crash.

According to the NHSTA, “The backup camera and display settings can be adjusted such that the rear-view image is no longer visible, and the system will retain that setting the next time the vehicle is placed in reverse.”

Although Nissan said the automaker is not aware of any accidents related to this condition, Nissan estimates that 100 percent of the vehicles being recalled have this problem.

Nissan says the recall began in October, and that dealers will update the backup camera settings software for free.
