A woman was seriously injured this morning after a crash involving a METRO light rail train this morning. The accident occurred early this morning, at around 4 a.m., in Midtown on the 900 block of Alabama Street, near Main Street.

Officials say the METRO train was traveling northbound on Main Street and the woman was driving westbound on Alabama when the crash occurred. It is still unclear as to what led up to the crash.

Emergency responders used the jaws of life to free the injured woman from her vehicle following the crash with the METRO train. Officials say that the woman suffered life-threatening injuries and has been hospitalized in critical condition. No one on the train was injured.

Both Alabama and Main Street were closed this morning until about 6:30 a.m. as authorities worked to clear the area. The northbound METRO rail has also since reopened.
