Woman Killed in Pierce Elevated Bridge Crash

A woman was found dead in her totaled vehicle on the Pierce Elevated Bridge following a crash in downtown Houston on Thursday morning.

Police state that they received a phone call about a single-vehicle car crash the Pierce Elevated bridge at about 2 a.m. on Thursday morning. They arrived to the scene to see that the woman had crashed into the concrete wall of the bridge. They found the woman unresponsive in her vehicle, where firefighters pronounced her dead.

Police state that they are still working to figure out the circumstances of the crash and what caused her to drive into the concrete wall. They checked the scene for bullets or signs of gunshots and were unable to find any.

Following the accident, the Houston Police Department reported that the southbound lanes of I-45 as well as the Pierce Elevated bridge were shut down as police and emergency responders worked to investigate the scene. They reopened two hours later.

The identity of the woman has not yet been released.
