A seven-vehicle accident has left one woman dead and several people injured after a police chase ended in a deadly crash in northeast Houston. The accident occurred on Wednesday evening, at around 11 p.m., at the intersection of Lockwood Drive and Laura Koppe Road.

Police state that they initially received a call about an armed robbery at a gas station near US-59 and Tidwell. While searching for the suspect, the officer on duty noticed a man in a mask leaving a CVS and getting into a vehicle matching the description of the suspect. He attempted to pull the driver over, at which point the driver fled. A chase ensued, with the vehicles involved reaching speeds of 80-90 miles per hour.

The police chase ended at the intersection of Lockwood Drive and Laura Koppe Road, in a deadly accident in northeast Houston. Police state the deputy’s vehicle collided with a black Kia Borrego with three people inside—one woman and two children. The force of the impact caused the Kia Borrego to roll over and hit two other cars, and the deputy’s vehicle caught fire and crashed into several other vehicles in a nearby parking lot.

The woman in the Kia Borrego was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The two children in her vehicle, a five-year-old boy and a two-year-old girl, were both injured in the accident, and the boy is reported to be in critical condition.

In addition, the deputy involved was injured. Nearby bystanders were able to pull the deputy from the wreckage just before the police vehicle caught fire. The deputy was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital following the collision, and the Houston Police Department stated that he is in stable condition. Three other people were transported to nearby hospitals with minor injuries.

The suspect’s vehicle, believed to be a gray Lincoln Town Car, was not involved in the crash, and they are still at large. Surveillance footage confirmed that an armed robbery took place at the CVS where the suspect was seen.
