A semi truck was in a rollover accident early this morning on highway U.S. 69/59 South.

The crash occurred at around 3:30 A.M. on U.S 69/59 South, close to where the southbound lanes split off into SH-288. The Southwest Freeway was closed for over 5 hours, as the overturned semi truck was blocking all lanes. The blockage caused major morning delays, as the accident was only cleared as of 8:45 this morning.

Authorities state that the big rig was hauling close to 50,000 pounds of sheet metal at the time of the accident. The mother of the driver told investigators that the driver started to flip at a bend in the road and that the truck then slid until it jackknifed close to the exit for Fannin Street. Fortunately, the driver –a young man– was not injured, nor was anyone else. Reporters state that the driver is cooperating with police to investigate the circumstances of the accident.
