A rugby coach was fatally injured in a car accident this weekend in northwest Houston. The accident took place on Friday at about 6 p.m., along Greenhouse Road.

Officials say that the car accident occurred following a police chase in northwest Houston. Officers were attempting to conduct a traffic stop at the intersection of West Little York Road and Greenhouse Road after receiving a call about a disturbance nearby. When they attempted to stop 16-year-old Ali Alabadi for driving through a red light, Alabadi fled.

Alabadi was reported to have been traveling 100 miles per hour at the time of the incident. During the pursuit, Alabadi lost control of his car and drove across the median into oncoming traffic, where he struck three vehicles. A fourth vehicle was unable to stop in time and collided with the rest of the cars involved. Six people were hospitalized.

The crash left one man dead and injured five others. The driver of one of the vehicles, 41-year-old Pedrie Wannenburg, was transported to a nearby hospital via LifeFlight, where he was pronounced dead. He also had his wife in the car, as well as their 10-year-old daughter and 8-year-old son. The 8-year-old was also flown to the hospital with life-threatening head injuries, and remains in the hospital in now stable condition. His wife and daughter were not seriously injured.

The at-fault driver was taken to the hospital after the crash. He was charged with felony murder, reckless aggravated assault, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He had two passengers in his car, who also sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the accident.
