A pedestrian was hit and killed by a pickup truck in southeast Houston on Saturday night.

The accident occurred at approximately 8 p.m. on Saturday at the 9200 block of Clearwood Drive, close to the Gulf Freeway. It was reported that the man was attempting to cross Clearwood Drive when a white Toyota Tacoma hit him, fatally injuring him.

Officers initially believed that the vehicle that struck and killed the man was traveling at high speeds and did not have its headlights on at the time of the collision due to statements made by a witness. However, video surveillance cameras near the scene of the accident revealed that the driver was not speeding, and did have his headlights on.

The pedestrian, a 56-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. The driver of the pickup truck, a 57-year-old man, remained at the scene and cooperated with the officers investigating the crash. The driver did not show signs of intoxication at the time of the collision. It is still unclear if the driver will face charges related to the incident. The driver was released after questioning.
