One person has died after a wrong-way accident involving three vehicles occurred on Highway 249.

The accident was called in to police around 9:45 p.m. on Saturday, October 9th. The collision occurred on Highway 249 in the 14700 block, between where the highway intersects with Hollister Road and Seton Lake Drive.

A man driving a Dodge Journey was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of 249 when he hit the front of a Toyota Matrix. Another driver, driving a Toyota Tundra, then attempted to avoid the Dodge as it passed, striking the Toyota Matrix. Deputies believe the driver of the Toyota Matrix was killed on impact, and they were pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.

The Dodge Journey continued driving in the wrong direction until it collided with a Honda Accord. Deputies state that the drivers of the Honda Accord and the Toyota Tundra were not injured, and that the wrong way driver suffered serious injuries and was transported to the hospital. All of the lanes of 249 were shut down following the accident as investigators responded. It has not yet been determined if the wrong way driver was intoxicated at the time of the collision.
