Two people have died after a multi-vehicle crash involving 11 vehicles and a motorcycle occurred on I-45 last night. The accident occurred in Montgomery County at about 11:15 p.m., in the northbound lanes of I-45 near SH-242.

Officials reported that at the time of the accident, a DPS trooper was conducting a traffic stop on I-45 near Research when a motorcyclist traveling at extremely high speeds struck him. Following the initial impact, the motorcyclist exited the freeway onto the service road, striking a Lexus exiting the Metro Park Center parking lot.

The force of that impact caused the motorcyclist to be ejected from his vehicle, and he landed in a nearby ditch. The injuries he sustained were fatal. His motorcycle continued down the feeder, where it was then struck several times by vehicles on the road. One driver that struck the motorcycle then exited his vehicle, at which point he was struck by another driver and thrown across the median into oncoming traffic. That driver was also fatally injured.

Officials say that as many as eleven vehicles were involved in the multi-vehicle crash, and that debris stretched for several hundred yards from the initial point of impact on I-45. Two others were reported to have been injured in the pile-up, but their conditions are unknown.
