A motorcyclist has died following a fatal truck accident earlier this morning in Katy, Texas. The accident occurred on the Katy Freeway, on the inbound lanes near the Mason Road exit.

Houston Transtar reported that the accident occurred at about 7:15 a.m. this morning. Police say that the accident occurred when a man driving a Triumph motorcycle and white Ford Escape merged into a moving lane of traffic at the same time. Witnesses state that the motorcyclist struck the backside of the Ford Escape and then fell off of his bike, where he was then struck by the truck driver.

The driver of the white Ford Escape was questioned by police and later released. The truck driver fled the scene of the Katy accident and did not stop to help the motorcyclist.

The motorcyclist, a 39-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford Escape was not injured. According to Houston Police, all of the eastbound main lanes but one at I-10 near Mason Road were shut down for four hours following the accident. The roads were cleared at around 11:15 a.m.

The Houston Police Department states that there is an ongoing investigation, and ask anyone with information on the tractor-trailer driver to contact their Hit and Run unit.
