A man has died following an accident involving an 18-wheeler after the truck lost two tires. The accident occurred yesterday, at about 1:45 p.m. at the 20700 block of I-45 near Louetta Road in Spring, Texas.

Officials say that the 18-wheeler was driving southbound on I-45 when one of its tandem axels broke. This caused two of the truck tires on its left side to come loose and roll into the middle of the freeway, resulting in an accident.

One wheel rolled onto the feeder, striking another vehicle. The vehicle was damaged, but the driver was not injured. The other wheel flew over the center median, striking a Chevy sedan in the northbound lane head-on. The driver of that vehicle, a 32-year-old man, was fatally injured as a result of the accident. His passenger, his 11-year-old-son, suffered minor injuries and was treated by EMS at the scene.

Charges have not yet been filed, but police say that they are investigating the incident and plan to review the truck’s maintenance history in order to determine if the company was negligent in maintenance.
