Two of the inbound lanes of I-10 were blocked off following a cement truck crash and resulting hazmat spill. The accident occurred early this morning, in the eastbound lanes of I-10 at Cane Island Parkway.
Officials say that the accident occurred when a cement truck overturned onto the freeway. It is still unclear as to what caused the truck to overturn. The driver of the cement truck was transported from the scene of the crash to a nearby hospital, where he is reported to have minor injuries.
After the crash, the cement truck was reported to be leaking fuel onto the I-10, prompting the shutdown. Hazmat crews worked for several hours to clear the roads, and drivers were reported to have been backed up for up to 3 miles. The Texas Department of Transportation reported that the roads had been cleared up by 10:11 a.m. this morning.
