A wrong-way driver caused a multi-vehicle crash on a Houston highway ramp. The accident occurred at, yesterday afternoon at about 3:50 p.m.
Houston police reported that undercover officers with the Houston Police Department were working in Spring Branch at 7300 Longpoint Road when they saw a truck that had been stolen. They began following the truck, which fled the scene.
In an attempt to evade the police, the driver of the stolen truck drove south, then entered the westbound ramp of I-10 going the wrong way. Minutes later, he stopped after striking two white pickup trucks and a gold sedan on the road. The suspect then attempted to flee the scene on foot but was soon caught and arrested.
One person was trapped inside their vehicle, and had to be extracted. The driver and at least one other person involved in the crash were taken to a nearby hospital and their injuries were evaluated. They are expected to recover.
The incident caused major delays on the highway and the ramp was closed for several hours while first responders tended to the injured and cleared the scene. The cause of the crash is under investigation, but officials believe the driver may have been under the influence of PCP.
