An 18-wheeler overturned on the Southwest Freeway near Bissonnet Street this morning. The accident occurred early this morning, at about 5 a.m., near where the Southwest Freeway intersects with Bissonnet Street and the Sam Houston Tollway.

Police say that the crash occurred when the 18-wheeler’s trailer began rising, striking a traffic sign that then toppled over onto the road. The 18-wheeler overturned as a result of the collision, blocking multiple lanes of the Southwest Freeway. The 18-wheeler was hauling a dump trailer, and its contents spilled out onto the freeway.

The Texas Department of Transportation reported that the southbound lanes of the Southwest Freeway near Bissonnet were closed for over seven hours as officials investigated the scene and hazmat crews worked to clear debris from the roads. They reopened at around 12:30 p.m. this afternoon. No injuries were reported. It is still unclear what caused the trailer to rise.
