Why truck accidents are so common in the oil field...one of the primary reasons is driver fatigue. Oil field workers typically work some very long schedules, long hours, often times a lot of overtime, they can be working at night, all night long, early morning hours, and fatigue, inevitably is one of the biggest causes of truck crashes. And the reason is is when people are fatigued, their reaction time is slower, they're less attentive to the roadway, and there's a greater chance of them being distracted from the task at hand which is paying attention to driving and driving safely. Another factor in oil field truck crashes has to do with the driver's schedule. Often times, drivers are provided with schedules that they have to meet during the day and they've got ot go from job site to job site and be at certain places at certain times and whne that schedule's too tight the result is the driver ends up driving faster than they should and rushing and inevitably, that is one of the causes of truck crash cases. Another factor of truck crash cases in the oil field include the condition of the roadways. So, for instance, when a truck driver is out in West Texas pulling a load, whether it's an 18-wheeler, tractor truck or even a big pickup truck, those roadways are often times very narrow, often times, one lane each direction separated by a yellow line or some dividing line that separates the flow of traffic. As a result, we can see how it doesn't take much error on behalf of a truck driver in terms of steering. A momentary lapse or a momentary taking eyes off the road and the vehicle steers either off the road or into oncoming traffic and nothing good comes from that.
